What We Care For!
The Elderly
of our community
The elderly in our community are a vital part of our shared history, wisdom, and traditions. They have contributed so much to society, and now it is our turn to ensure they receive the care, respect, and support they deserve daily.
The Future
of our community
Our community’s future is shaped by the actions we take today. It is built on unity, and a shared commitment to growth and well-being. By fostering education, inclusivity, and sustainability, we can create a thriving environment.
The Streets
of our community
Our streets should be a place of safety, and opportunity for all. By standing together against gangsterism and keeping our neighborhoods clean, we create an environment where families feel safe , and children can dream.
Story time Real stories, Real Impact
Empowering Young Girls in Rehab Centres
Aunty Gertie ran youth programmes in rehab centres across Macassar, Sandvlei, Bishop Lavis, Valhalla Park, Mfuleni, and Eersteriver. Her focus was on awareness and education, covering topics such as; teenage pregnancy and abortion, menstrual health and hygiene, and risks of early substance abuse
Currently, she works with children aged 4 to 13, offering reading and language support in both Afrikaans and English. Using whole-brain learning techniques with colours and creative tools, she helps children overcome learning challenges.
Addressing Childhood Trauma
Through trauma workshops, Curious Minds discovered that many children had been neglected or exposed to early sexual experiences, leading to poor concentration and learning difficulties. To help them heal, the programme offers; art, colouring, games and puzzles and brain-stimulating activitiesThey also recycling crafts and drumming sessions with coffee tins and sticks.
With parental consent, children participate in sessions focusing on the Child Act and violence prevention, providing a safe space for healing and growth.
Renewal of the Mind Programme
Aunty Gertie began her community work as a spiritual leader in Medium B at Pollsmoor Prison, where she led the Renewal of the Mind Programme. Her mission was to reunite inmates with their families, offering follow-up support from Cape Town to Vanrhynsdorp.
The initiative was a success, and even after the inmates were discharged, she continued to provide support through parole services, ensuring they stayed on the right path.
