Curious Minds

Who We Are

Making a Difference, One Act of Kindness at a Time

Curious Minds is a dedicated non-profit organisation (NPO) committed to uplifting the most vulnerable in Cape Town—children and the elderly. Through our various initiatives, we provide essential support, from food hampers and clothing to educational programmes and hospice visits. Whether it’s helping with daily chores, stimulating young minds during school holidays, or running vital drives like our sanitary and feeding campaigns, we aim to be a helping hand where it’s needed most. Together, we bring hope, dignity, and care to those who need it most.

But our mission goes beyond meeting basic needs—we strive to create a sense of belonging and joy. Through engaging activities like brain-stimulating games for the elderly and holiday programmes for children, we nurture both hearts and minds. Every small act of kindness adds up, and with the support of our community, we can continue making a meaningful impact in the lives of those who need it most.

Meet Aunty Gertie

The heart and soul behind Curious Minds, Aunty Gertie (Gertrude Matsio, 53 years old), is a woman of deep faith, guided by her love for God and her calling to serve others. With kindness, humour, and a giving heart, she dedicates her life to uplifting the less fortunate, ensuring that no one in her community is forgotten. Through her unwavering belief and compassion, she brings hope, love, and joy to those who need it most.

From a young age, growing up in Valhalla Park, Aunty Gertie recognised the need for basic skills training, combined with ethical and moral values that respect different cultures. Her passion for community upliftment led to the founding of Curious Minds, a young but actively involved charity organisation making a tangible difference in local and surrounding areas.

Her mission is not just about providing support—it’s about restoring dignity and spreading God’s love through every act of kindness. She believes that even the smallest gesture can make a big difference, and with faith at the centre of her work, she continues to inspire those around her.
